Teeth’s can be discolored from external and internal (via the nerve of the tooth, pulpa) influences. The external influences are easier to treat than the internal.
External discoloring is caused by sediments on the surface of the tooth from dye which comes from food and beverages like coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco.
Internal discoloring can occur in connection with a dead tooth nerve (pulpa). The cause to a dead nerve could occur from a knock on the tooth. The principles behind teeth bleaching consists of carbamide peroxide that decomposes the colors within the tooth to achromatic molecules that makes the tooth white and pretty again. The process does not damage the enamel as the enamel does not change but instead it is the molecules that discolor the teeth that are affected. The teeth bleaching kit from Sensiwhite is based on the gentle but effective carbamide peroxide that contains a 6.2 ph-value and thereby almost identical with the mouths natural environment which has a 7 ph-value. To comparison a soft drink (like cola) has a 3.0 ph-value.
